This review refers to the Bibliobazaar edition but also applies to several other editions of H.B. Dewing's translation that have come out since the work, originally published in the bilingual Loeb series, entered the public domain. Dewing's is the only English version of The Wars that I'm aware of, other than some excerpts translated by Averil Cameron in a 1967 pocketbook. The appearance of these English-only editions is welcome, but it is unfortunate that none of the publishers jumping on the bandwagon has chosen to consolidate the six books of Procopius into one or two volumes. As it is, if you want the complete series, you can buy three paperbacks or, for not much more money, the five Loeb volumes.
