Each year the eerie late-summer Public Wolf Howl attracts thousands of visitors to Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park, "the wolf capital of eastern North America." Naturalist Michael Runtz has observed wolf behaviour in the park over the past 25 years. The Howls of August is an informative, personal, and highly entertaining account of one man's encounters with wolves in their natural habitat.
Michael Runtz has worked as a professional naturalist in Canada's national and provincial parks. He is the author of the bestselling books Moose Country, Algonquin Seasons, The Explorer's Guide to Algonquin Park, and the acclaimed behaviour trilogy Wild Flowers, Wild Things, and Wild Wings -- the latter volume winning the Ottawa Citizen Book Prize for Non-fiction. His award-winning photographs are an integral part of his Carleton University Natural History lecture series, for which he has received Excellence in Teaching awards. He lives in Arnprior, Ontario, with his wife and two sons.
