Editorial Reviews

Review

"This collection of incisive essays plumbs the precepts and principles that propel Canadian politics. Institutions, culture, processes, and Canada's changing place in the world are subjected to high-quality examinations by authorities in their fields. The chapters will be of value to beginner and advanced students, enhancing their understanding of the language of Canadian politics." - Nelson Wiseman, University of Toronto --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

The new, fourth, edition of Canadian Politics continues the work of earlier editions in offering a comprehensive introduction to Canadian government and politics by a widely recognized and highly respected group of political scientists, writing on subjects on which they are acknowledged experts. For this edition, the editors have reorganized the book into four sections: Part I: Citizenship, Identities, and Values; Part II: The Canadian State; Part III: Civil Society, Democracy, and Governance; and, Part IV: Globalizing Trends and International Pressures. The fourth section, comprised of five chapters, develops a new focus for this edition by examining the diverse and increasingly important influences of globalization on the Canadian polity and system of governance. Of the twenty-three chapters, those retained from earlier editions have been entirely revised and updated. This edition adds twelve new authors and eleven completely new chapters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canadian Politics - I told you it was interesting!, December 12, 2003
By Meli (Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This text was actually required reading for me as a Political Science & French double-major. I found it an interesting read dealing with a nice balance between historical events and analysing different terms. It gives the reading a good background from which to study Canadian Politics. I would have liked it to have a glossary of terms, however, in addition to the Constitutional sections it has in the back.
