Product Description
Silk is one of the oldest fabrics known to man, its discovery as a weavable fiber dating back as early as the mid-third century BC in China. Europe was exposed to the incomparable delicacy of silk—soft, sensuous and shimmering in its opulence—via the "Silk Road" which created an insatiable demand. In order to counteract the harmful currency drain resulting from the import of silk, Louis XI chose Lyon as the site for a silk industry in 1466, which flourished for over three centuries. Revolutionized with the invention of the silk loom in 1804, the weaving of complex designs was made possible by automatically controlling the warp and weft threads on a silk loom with recorded patterns of holes in a string of cards.

Exactingly printed to recreate the luminosity of classic era silk, our French Ornate Bleu journal is dedicated to the beautiful fabrics of the Jacquard loom silk weaving tradition.

This unique book has a subtly weighted strap for secure closing, satin ribbon place markers and a convenient memento pouch.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paper Blanks French Ornate Wraps, November 8, 2006
I bought the lined Violet Wrap at the bookstore, vibrant, true color, but it was the only one on the shelf. Then I found them on-line and ordered 3 more. The pictures of these journals on this site show similar coloring as the book I bought at the store but the products that were sent to me are very faded in comparison, as if they've been in storage too long or perhaps the dye process was incomplete as the pigment clearly shows a variety of colors within each shade, and the shading varies dark to light across the cover top to bottom. The outline of the location of the hidden magnates that secure the flap on the Noir Cuivre Wrap is evident, as is the outline of each leather strap end secured within the hardcover. The Bleu wrap isn't what you'd think of as blue, more lavender. The Vert Wrap is green with a tint toward brown but the color on this is less faded. The golden designs on each book are fine, some reflect light better than others. The books are still unique and their utility is still what I'm looking for so I'm not bothering to return them. But I hope this review helps prepare you for the coloring quality you might get if you decide to order these journals.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect size journal for scribblers, May 26, 2006

I love all the paperblanks journals. They are the perfect size (144 pages 5X7), come in a variety of beautiful covers, have acid free paper and take pen and ink well (no seepage thru the page.)

The only quibble I have is that this particular journal is called French Bleu and indicates by the picture, title and description that it is blue and green.

These journals are solid purple, with purple ribbons, and purple leather strips on the side. So if you like purple, you will be in heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, June 18, 2009
I love my Paperblank note pad. It is the perfect size at 5"x7" and lined. It has a little magnetic closing which I find very handy. I use it to keep track of books I want to read and I also write short book reviews in it.

It could be used for a multitude of things. The papers are sewn in very well and it is a sturdy book. I highly recommend it.
