About the Author

The poems selected for this book were carefully reviewed and chosen by a committee of professionals, family members and longtime friends of the author. "I Have a Reason to Smile" is the author's first book of poetry and as the title poem, won Ms. Smith a Poet Merit for Outstanding Achievement Award, a Bronze Medallion Award, and a Poet of Merit Award from the International Society of Poets. She has also received semi-finalist status with Poetry.com.

Ms. Smith's first set of poems were awarded the Editor's Choice Award for Merit in May 2001 and are published in the book, "Friends I Never Met," Watermark Press Publishing.

The author has many talents and interests that include her love for music and singing. She has traveled with various well-known groups, performing in Poland, Italy, Greece and Canada.
