Product Description

The "regulars" at the Corral Club bar in Steamboat Springs, Colorado have held the same barstools for a mighty long time, and they have a lot to say about the big city developers, seconds home owners, and cappuccino bars that are turning their piece of paradise into a strange land.

If you have spent any time in a western mountain town you are sure to recognize some of these characters as folks you have known, some you would like to know, and even a few you would rather forget. Towler brings them all to life in a collection of essays that will keep you laughing.

You will find yourself wanting to read this book out loud to the person sharing the barstool next to you- whether your favorite bar is in Colorado, Wyoming, or anywhere in the American West.

About the Author

Sureva Towler's articles appear regularly in the Denver Post. She has written seven award-winning histories of northwest Colorado and lectures throughout the West. Sureva resides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado but crosses the plains to Lawrence, Kansas often to spend time living near grandkids.

3.0 out of 5 stars Boys at the bar, November 9, 2006
Entertaining series of essays. It is probably more enjoyable if you only read two or three at a sitting. They do have a tendency to get repetitive. Makes a nice book to have around when you only have fifteen or twenty minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rollicking Read, July 19, 2006
The cowboy mystique still rules in the bar where the boys have much to say about how new money is ruining the old west. This collection of Towler's Denver Post columns covers that topic and a bunch more. From the bittersweet memorial to crazy-dave-the-plumber to thoughts on girlfriends and snapshots of people you might know (Wanda Jane the Hellion, Millie the Life Coach) she hits just the right note. Plus there is more than one laugh on every page. A rollicking read!
