DEEP CONSCIOUSNESS: A Gay Perspective
Easton Mountain Retreat Center, August 8-10, 2008
*Co-sponsored by White Crane Institute

Toby Johnson

There is a certain enlightenment that goes with being gay.

Gay spiritual-writer and former White Crane Journal editor, Toby Johnson, PhD will present a weekend of talks, introspective exercises and conversations about “Gay Perspective,” that is, gay men’s natural insights into the nature of myth, religion and the meaning of life.

An entertaining—and occasionally moving—speaker and storyteller, Johnson will relate “The Myth of Avalokiteshvara,” revealing the whimsical, but profound, answer to why gay men reincarnate; explain fellow writer Christian de la Huerta’s “Ten Roles Gay People Play in Society,” calling participants to locate their own vocation among these; and lead a Guided Meditation practice to achieve brain hemisphere synchrony and—hopefully—a direct insight experience of “seeing God” (based in Meister Eckhart’s aphorism: “The eye with which I see God is the eye with which God sees me).”

Lecture and brainstorming will be complemented with playful ritual, sacred singing (including familiar hymns, Hindu & Buddhist chants and just a little Gregorian Chant) and a round of Sufi Dancing.

Dear Friends and Readers,

Let me let you know that I'm going to be presenting several programs during 2008 that might be of interest to you.

I'm doing a dialogue with Richard Rohr, OFM, a Catholic priest who is very active in the general "Men's Movement," on the evening of April 25, 2008 in Albuquerque NM. The subject matter of our dialogue is the contribution gay men can and do make to the Men's Movement, i.e., the liberation of modern-day men from the pressures of old-time male dominant culture/religion. Richard and I are being hosted by Ironic Horse Studios, the home of Henry Seale and Peter Grahame.

Then Saturday and Sunday, I'll be presenting a series of talks on "Deep Consciousness," at Ironic Horse.

There's info on my website tobyjohnson.com with links to Ironic Horse Studios.

I'll be presenting these sames talks, though in a somewhat different format, later in the year at Wildwood Retreat at the Russian River, Guerneville CA, May 23-26, and probably also at Easton Mountain, outside Albany NY, Aug 8-10.
