Editorial Reviews

Product Description
While this thoroughly revised fifth edition reflects all of the many changes in the organization of the Corps, it continues to focus on helping Marine NCOs make the most of their chevrons and . . . get ahead in the corps. Practical and easy to use, it is the only reference that provides fast access to all of the many official military regulations and instructions that an NCO needs to know. Its sound advice and up-to-date information on military matters help new NCOs acquire a firm understanding of the different specialties in the USMC and serves as a quick refresher for even the most seasoned Marine. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Marine NCOs, January 4, 2000
This book is probably on every Marine NCOs bookshelf or in their footlockers and for good reasons. The book is by the same author of the Marine Officers Guide, and has alot of the information found in that book, but there is also alot of unique information. Its chapters are titled:The Noncommissioned Officer, The Marine Corps, The Profession of Arms, Leadership, Traditions Flags Decorations and History, Posts and Stations, Reserves, Military Justice, Uniforms, Courtesy and Ceremonies, Service Afloat(Sea Service/Duty), Individual Administration, Pay Allowances and Travel, and Personal Affairs. If you are going to be a Marine and plan on becoming a NCO(corporal and above), or are going to become a commissioned officer, you have to get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Every Marine NCO, January 10, 2004
By One of Marius' Mules (Just back of the pointy end of the spear) - See all my reviews
Once you pin on those Corporal stripes, you'd better get ready to "walk the walk." If every Marine NCO followed the advice contained in here, the Corps would be a lot better off. It's a handy little book and, even though I'm a civilian now, I continue to refer to the section on leadership. The "Handbook" is in dire need of updating but it's full of sound information and ought to be in the seabag of every Marine NCO. The only negative thing I would say about the book is that it was revised by a Marine Officer. Most of his contributions were superfluous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for introducing a new NCO to how the USMC operates. But I have to minor problems..., March 1, 2008
...shouldn't there be an updated version of this book. Especially with all that has changed with the Marine Corps over the past 13 years since it was first published. There also needs to be a reference appendix detailing a specific manual, publication or MCO involved with a particular subject in this book. Other than that, this is an excellent book for a Marine looking to earn a rank higher than LCpl.
