Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This ethics casebook for industrial/organizational psychology is a substantially revised and updated version of a book first published by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 1985. Since then, I/O psychology has become a far more complex, technically advanced and widely used discipline, and is practiced in an increasingly litigious environment. This casebook reflects those new realities and is intended to stimulate the process of thinking ethically about I/O psychology. "The Ethical Practice of Psychology in Organziations" provides a wide variety of examples of the kinds of circumstances that both practitioners and researchers can and do encounter. The cases, based on real-life examples, cover dilemmas in the areas of personnel selection, organizational diagnosis and intervention, managing consulting relationships, research and academic issues, professional training and certification, billing and marketing, and the ethics of professional behaviour. Each case is presented in a four-tier format that (1) describes a problem, (2) cites the relevant sections of the APA Ethics Code Standards, (3) interprets the case and (4) discusses implications.

5.0 out of 5 stars FROM: APA Review of Books, 1999, v. 44, #2, Pp. 169-170, May 4, 1999
By A Customer
Review by Marvin Dunnette, U. of Minnesota:

"Lowman has done a superb job in this book of developing and discussing cases illustrative of a wide range of practices and behaviors that present challenges to professional judgment. This book can be used productively in graduate courses...[and] can also be recommended to current practitioners..."

4.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Psychologists in Organizations, August 25, 2006

This is a book that all professionals and graduate students in Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Consulting should read. I have used this book, or the earlier version, as a required text in my courses. The authors do an excellent job of showing how the ethical principles can be applied to practical problems, although the coverage appears to be more aimed at practitioners than researchers. The book covers most of the important issues. However, in future editions, I would like to see expanded coverage of issues of informed consent, intellectual property, and problems encountered by students doing research in organizations (the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars).

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT DEAL, June 26, 2009
Book was in fabulous condition at a greatly reduced price from the college bookstore. Shipping was speedy and I had my book before many other students who had bought from the school bookstore.
