I highly recommend the NASB translation - it's incredibly literal compared to the original Greek and Hebrew texts ...it's not all that poetic compared to the NIV etc., but it's very very accurate and in my opinion the best translation you can buy in the English language. I've used the NKJV, the KJV, the NIV and the NRSV and I still like this the best. ...Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (BIBLE) ...2 Corinthians 12:9 GOD IS BIGGER!!!

It it plain to see that the words that are contained in this Good Book are true to those who have cherished them by faith, and they are utter rubbish to those who are without it. "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to the Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." A quote from this very Good Book from 1 Corinthians 1.21-25. I personally love this version of the NASB as compared to the newer version, sadly missing the "Thee" and "Thy" of honor to the LORD in the Psalms and prayer form. It is still good to remember that He is above us, though He loves His people through eternity.

From Genesis through The Revelation, a moving account of the grace and mercy of God. The contents are sometimes graphic and troubling, but never without a "socially redeeming quality" as the Sumpreme Court likes to say. The genealogies are a little slow but shouldn't be passed up, they're chock full of little surprises. Greatest book I've ever read, I can't thank the author enough!
