Editorial Reviews

Review

"Cold Soups by Linda Ziedrich offers 80 recipes that are easy to prepare, yet make use of the seasonal bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Cold soups are elegantly refreshing and extremely versatile." -- The Upper Crust

"Cold Soups offers recipes for soups that taste delicious when served cold. From clear soups, yogurt soups, and salad soups to thick, creamy soups and dessert soups, this cookbook provides a variety of soups perfect to serve at any meal." -- Summer Living

"Cold Soups, as its title boldly states, is a cookbook for a style of food that has somehow escaped becoming an American tradition. As Ziedrich points out, most Americans, if they had tried cold soups at all, have most likely had only gazpacho, vichyssoise, or borscht. Ziedrich's 79 recipes are all simple, designed to lead the cook through unfamiliar territory. Just read the book." Statesman-Journal -- Salem, OR

"Author Ziedrich doesn't stop with the classics. Drawing on international cuisines, she offers everything from clam consomm to avocado soup with salsa to pomegranate and orange soup and pure of celery soup with caraway." -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"If the number of delicatessens offering hot soups on steamy, hot days is any indication, this cookbook is urgently needed. It's Oregon free-lancer Ziedrich's first book, and it is well done. The 80 recipes are either drawn from America, Europe, the Middle East, India, or East Asia or are the authors original creations. The soups range from clear to thick and creamy." -- Nation's Restaurant News

"Just in time for summer, this refreshing and enlightening cookbook provides versatile recipes for simple, elegant, and light and hearty meals. You will not be disappointed with this convenient cookbook." Fort Worth Stockyard Gazette -- (Fort Worth Stockyard Gazette)

5.0 out of 5 stars Used it all summer, January 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book because of the title alone, and was very impressed. I made a soup from it once a week all last summer and only disliked one. Some of the seasoning and ingredient changes are subtle from recipe to recipe, but they do make a difference in the taste. My DH works late one night a week and I served him cold soup that night. I would definitely buy this book again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Simple, and Healthy, September 7, 2008
So far, we have made about six or seven of these soups. All have been quite good and fairly simple to make, (although a blender or food processor is often required for pureeing). Many are low-fat and offer refreshing ways to eat more vegetables. Ziedrich offers soups from a variety of ethnic cuisines, including Indian, Thai, Georgian, and Greek. I am sure some of the soups would also be good hot, and I have been using the carrot-orange-ginger one as a breakfast drink. The soups are also quite elegant and perfect for serving to guests.
