Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Dessert maven Chattman (Icebox Desserts, The Cereal Lover's Cookbook) returns with a winning collection of kid-friendly cookie recipes, focusing on "what the kids are going to enjoy most, and then getting messy and having fun." She offers over a dozen variations on the classic chocolate chip cookie (including "Black Forest Chocolate Chip"), and other favorites such as oatmeal and peanut butter are given multiple variations as well. Brownies and bars round out the collection. Written with the busy parent in mind, Chattman includes a number of quick and easy recipes such as Almond Joy Cookies and a basic, buttery Shortbread. She also includes a handful of recipes that require just a few ingredients, such as Instant Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies, which don't require flour, sugar, baking powder or salt, minimizing the mess. Recipes are clear, easy to follow and include steps kids can perform by themselves. An imaginative and expansive collection of holiday-themed recipes such as Abraham Lincoln Stovepipe Hats and Bird's Nest Cookies with Easter Eggs expand on the fun. Most recipes are within the reach of inexperienced bakers, although building that "Candy-Covered Gingerbread House" might call for a pair of well-practiced baking hands-but of course, with these projects, you can always eat the mistakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars C is for Cookie - That's Good Enough for Me!, October 14, 2006

(REAL NAME)
I love to bake, but sometimes faall into a rut of making the same things over and over. This huge collection of cooking inspires me to try new things that are still kid-friendly (esp. important for my picky kid!) Chattman sprinkles her recipes with charming antedotes about her childhood and family, it's like walking into a warn kitchen that smells of freshly baked cookies and chatting with a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars With kid-friendly recipes and plenty of baker's tips, it's not to be missed!, November 6, 2006
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
The 200-some cookie recipes in this title differ from competing cookie cookbooks: they've all been 'kid tested', decorations are done with kids in mind, and MOM'S BIG BOOK OF COOKIES: 200 FAMILY FAVORITES YOU'LL LOVE MAKING AND YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE EATING includes special tips on baking for kids. With kid-friendly recipes and plenty of baker's tips, it's not to be missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not as good as her other baking book., April 7, 2007
By Sparky (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
I own the author's "Mom's Big Book of Baking" and use it all the time, so I bought this book from Amazon sight unseen. While I've used it alot, I don't know if I really need both of her books as many of the recipes appear in both books in slightly altered form. That being said, I have used the book several times and my kids like cooking from it because the pictures are so appealing. It's also spiral bound, so it's easy to keep open on the counter when you are cooking with 2 kids at your heels.
