From the Inside Flap

How to make things clear and produce them yourself

INFORMATION DESIGN DESK REFERENCE is an invaluable resource for anyone trying to present information with text, graphics, tables and charts. It shows you how to convey a message in a brochure, a handout, a web site or a presentation using readily available software and your own imagination.

INFORMATION DESIGN DESK REFERENCE has a unique "project" table of contents designed as a fast and easy way to find information for your specific project.

INFORMATION DESIGN DESK REFERENCE shows you how to make a simple brochure or a complex document easier to understand and better looking. It helps you to train your eye, to develop your own style of communicating visually, and to present your ideas confidently.

INFORMATION DESIGN DESK REFERENCE provides powerful lessons in presenting information with style and clarity that will maximize understanding and retention.

INFORMATION DESIGN DESK REFERENCE was developed and produced by the author, Christine Sevilla, with the basic software and techniques she describes in the book. The project began with the need she felt to create a resource of her own - it grew into the book you hold in your hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and Friendly Approach to Designing Information, January 30, 2003
As a teacher of technical writing for many years, I've been looking for a book that gives the basics of how to organize and present information in a way that doesn't intimidate readers. This is the book! It is an easy read with a plethora of guidelines and practical suggestions so that even the novice can "do it." In addition, the author's warm and approachable tone makes this a fun and easy read. But it also presents a unique blending of information including how to do an audience analysis, adult learning theory for the information designer, basic page layout, color use guidelines and more. I am using it for my college Document and Information Design class, and the students love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a High School design class but not professionals, June 7, 2007
By T. S. (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Perhaps the target audience for this book is absolute beginners and that's how I'm rating it. It's niether great nor bad for that level of reader. If you're looking for something more serious or professional then go with Tufte's books.
