Finishing is the last step in a woodworking project, one which must be properly executed if the final product is to be successful. Yet, for many, it is a frightening combination of alchemy and luck. Thankfully, Dresdner, a regular contributor to Fine Woodworking , has written a book that will clarify this mysterious subject. Using accessible terminology, he describes the many types of finishes and lists their pros and cons. Coverage includes tools, surface preparation, refinishing, and staining. The chapter on damage repair will help salvage many projects. A particularly interesting and useful section classifies brand-name products by their chemical type. This book will be greeted enthusiastically by woodworkers of all skill levels. Highly recommended for woodworking collections.
