Past meets present in this dazzling collection of new quilts from design genius Kaffe Fassett. Drawing inspiration from the textile treasures of the Victoria&Albert Museum, London's world-famous decorative art museum, Kaffe has created 23 gorgeous new patchwork designs. Each is a sympathetic interpretation of an antique source, using updated color schemes and contemporary sewing techniques. All the designs are easily accessible to today's quilters.
The patchworks fall into three categories. First come Utility Quilts, employing large, simple patch shapes cut from charming prints. Traditional pieces follow, encompassing popular heritage quilt formats reborn here in fresh, modern colorways. Finally come the irresistible Showpiece Quilts, incorporating applique to create breathtaking showstoppers.
Each design has full instructions and easy-to-follow colored piecing diagrams. All the basic techniques are covered, from start to finish, including simple applique and quilting methods, and the book is lavishly illustrated throughout with close-ups of each quilt, gorgeous photography on location, and clear color design templates.

About the Author

Kaffe Fassett is a bestselling author and designer who passionately believes that anyone can participate in and enjoy creative crafts. He regularly shares his vision of the decorative arts in his lecture tours, exhibitions all over the world, workshops, television appearances and books. His work formed the basis of the first one-man show of a living textile designer ever to show at the V&A in London. Designing for companies such as Designers' Guild and Rowan Yarns, Kaffe has launched a luscious new collection of cotton fabrics specifically for quilting. His books include Patchwork, Passionate Patchwork, Kaffe Fassett's Pattern Library, Kaffe's Classics, Family Album, and Mosaics all published by The Taunton Press.
Liza Prior Lucy collaborated with Kaffe on his previous patchwork books and is a quilt, needlepoint and knitting designer of many years' experience. She lives in Pennsylvania.

It's the kind of book to curl up with and pore over each fabulous page for hours, but it also inspires me to jump up and get out there to get going on a new project. Each quilt is beautifully displayed within the museum making these pages artwork in and of themselves that you could frame for your own studio. Whether you are an advanced quilter and want to make something fast, or a beginner quilter that requires a simple pattern, your results will be extraordinary with Kaffe's 'utility' patterns using his museum quality fabrics. For intermediate quilters, Kaffe has taken some classic quilt patterns and turned them into show stopping exhibition quilts through his creative use of color and contemporary interpretations of traditional designs. An example of this is his Wedding Snowball Quilt made out of blue and white fabrics that mirror the blue delft ceramic tiles on display in the museum. Once again the color and pattern combinations are extraordinary. It's the kind of book to curl up with and pore over each fabulous page for hours, but it also inspires me to jump up and get out there to get going on a new project.

I've made projects with patterns from other Kaffee Fassett books and I've never been disappointed with the results. This one is another winner.
