According to Hutchinson, a research scientist at the American Museum of Natural History, Pennsylvania has the most varied natural scenery and terrain of any state in the U.S., "even though our little commonwealth ranks but thirty-third in area among the states." Award-winning landscape photographer Mulligan (Terra Incognita; Living Landscapes) captures the diversity in this large volume of more than 200 full-color photographs. The images are lovely, detailed, awe-inspiring and intimate, picturing subjects that range from pristine stretches of Lake Erie coastline and the verdant summit of Blue Knob, the second highest peak in Pennsylvania, to a timeworn covered bridge in the Appalachian Plateaus Province. Grouped geographically, with detailed captions, the images reveal the Keystone state in all its natural wonder.
