About the Author
DEANE DOZIER WINEGAR lives in the Blue Ridge at the southern end of Shenandoah National Park and is a native of Staunton, Virginia. During her years as a newspaper reporter, an in-depth series on stream channelization won a state writing award and Trout Unlimited's Silver Trout Award, and her wildlife photography has captured numerous blue ribbons in exhibits up and down the East Coast. She and her husband, Garvey Winegar (outdoors editor for the
Richmond Times-Dispatch), coauthored the
Highroad Guide to the Virginia Mountains, winner of the Excellence in Craft Award from the Virginia Outdoor Writers Association.
