Product Description

The authoritative source of FDA-approved information on prescription drugs. Physicians have turned to PDR for the latest word on prescription drugs for over 60 years! Today, PDR is considered the standard prescription drug reference and can be found in virtually every physician's office, hospital, and pharmacy in the United States. In fact, nine out of 10 doctors consider PDR their most important drug information reference source. The 61st edition contains more than 3,000 pages-our most comprehensive edition ever! Our new format allows dramatically improved readability and easier access to the information you need now. Among the new drugs featured in this edition are: Amitiza (lubiprostone), a new locally acting chloride-channel activator for the oral treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation in adults Daytrana (methylphenidate transdermal system), a new once-daily transdermal patch formulation of methylphenidate for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder Nexavar (sorafenib), a new multi-kinase inhibitor for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma Proquad a new live vaccine for simultaneous vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella (German measles) and varicella (chickenpox) in children 12 months to 12 years of age (Proquad is also approved for use in children 12 months to 12 years of age if a second dose of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine is to be administered) Ranexa (ranolazine extended-release tablets), a new anti-anginal for the treatment of chronic angina Rotateq (rotavirus vaccine, live, oral, pentavalent), a new vaccine for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and children Sutent (sunitinib malate), a new multi-kinase inhibitor for patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma, and gastrointestinal stromal tumor after disease progression on, or intolerance to, imatinib mesylate Vivaglobin (immune globulin subcutaneous [human]), a new immune globul

3.0 out of 5 stars Know What You Buy, February 12, 2007
The PDR is commonly thought to be a complete drug reference. While the strength of the PDR is that it includes complete FDA approved prescribing information for the drugs inside, the weakness is that the drugs it includes is not comprehensive. The publisher depends on drug manufacturers to provide the information that is included in each edition. For this reason, new drugs almost always are included; however, older drugs that are beyond their patent life may not be included.

Further, the PDR only includes FDA approved information. As any Physician, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or Pharmacist knows, off label drug use is common. If a medical professional is looking for a printed drug reference that is truly comprehensive, look for Drug Facts and Comparisons or AHFS Drug Information. If one is looking for a handbook, consider Lexi-Comp Drug Information, AHFS Essentials, or Drug Facts and Comparisons Pocket Edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Information not disclosed to buyers!, January 20, 2007
By W. Hitchcock (Salt Lake City, Utah United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As usual, the 2007 PDR was what I expected. Very comprehensive.
The only thing I found a little misleading was the fact that the advertised edition of the PDR on-disc (CD), that was was included with the 2007 PDR, was a 2006 edition and it's use expires part way through 2008. Most buyers would probably assume that the "PDR on disc" offerd would be the 2007 edition on CD. Also the fact that these software editions have "time-limited functionality" should also be mentioned. I believe that this information would influence a buyers decision to purchase the product. I attempted to check and see if this information was currently available on the Amazon site but this purchase option is not longer offered.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE - contains 2006 PDR on CD, NOT 2007 PDR CD, September 11, 2007
By 2helpful (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews
This was published before the 2007 PDR on CD was available. If you want the more up-to-date 2007 PDR on CD, instead get the PDR Electronic Library 2007 on CD. Amazon has it for $59.99 which is 40% off listed price! The 2007 PDR Electronic Library has the full 2007 PDR + PDR Nonprescription Drugs/Dietary Supplements + PDR Ophthalmic Medicines + PDR Drug Interactions/Side Effects all fully integrated on one CD. So it is much more up-to-date and much more comprehensive and much more portable!
