Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Katherine Taggart, known as Rusty because of her red hair, adores children and is able to indulge her love for them by working in her family's orphanage. When she accompanies two orphans to their new home, Rusty meets wealthy Chase McCandles and soon finds herself falling in love with him. On the surface, Chase, a believer in God, appears to be everything a devout Christian would want. However, Rusty discovers that Chase treats his own son Quintin with great distance, and she is reluctant to pursue a relationship with a man who doesn't share her devotion to children. Wick (Whispers of Moonlight, Harvest House, 1996) does a fine job of re-creating life in turn-of-the century Colorado. Chase is especially well written, which allows him to become more that the usual one-dimensional romantic lead. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as engaging as her other books, January 24, 2000
By Kathy (Geneva, OH United States) - See all my reviews
I've read several of Wick's novels, and although I enjoyed the subplot of Rusty's growing relationship with Quintin, I thought the romance storyline was flat and unemotional. Chase was too stiff and aloof, and it was unbelievable that a woman with Rusty's personality would fall in love with him. I truly enjoy reading Wick's books; so far I think Sean Donovan is the best. I'm working on reading all of her novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars romancejunkie, August 18, 2003
Once again Lori Wick has written an incredible historical! I love the compassion of Katherine and the special love she has for all children. I enjoyed watching Chase grow and learn how God wanted him to care for his son. Great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful; as always, July 28, 2002
By Rachel (Lebanon, TN) - See all my reviews
From a younger readers point of view I adored the book. Rusty had an award winning personality and Lori played her out wonderfully. I have heard many a good word about this book from my family and friends and here I am to pass it on. Another of Lori Wick's finest.
