4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I have this book scince the houses are probably gone, August 31, 2005
By Raistlin (Pensacola FL) - See all my reviews
This is a beautiful book and all the more important in the light of recent events. The copy is repetitive and dry but the pictures are lovely. I would have appreciated more info on the architecture and history of the times these homes were built.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is This All They Could Come Up With...?, February 21, 2009
By Lisa D (Chicago) - See all my reviews
Out of all the cities in the United States, New Orleans is by far the best. I purchased this booklet for the purpose of trading random postcards internationally. I thought this would be a great way to let people know that New Orleans is alive & that they should definitely still come visit. I live in Chicago, but that's the way I feel about New Orleans.

That being said, this postcard book was a disappointment. Not only is it hastily thrown together, it's also an unprofessional job. There are about 4 pictures that would have only taken a minute to center on the page while the book was being produced, that aren't centered at all. For instance, there is a water fountain for a vertical postcard, where the water fountain is more to the right than the center. What is that? Was everybody really too busy to center a picture on the computer?

The other thing that bothers me is: how many pictures of stairwells does a person really need? I know it's supposed to focus on architecture but...have you ever strolled around the garden district? There are so many gorgeous mansions but these people only took pictures of about 5 of them, and mediocre ones at that, pictures that seem too close up or don't show the entire house. This product should be an embarrassment to the company that produced it. They remind me of that time I bought an Edward Hopper calendar and the publishing company didn't even note the names of the paintings for each month. I'm getting really tired of the half-heartedly produced junk that is offered to the public. Does anyone have any sense of creativity left, or of putting out the best work they can? Maybe if a person doesn't like taking pictures of one of the most architecturally intricate neighborhoods in one of the best cities of America, they should get a job at Wal-Mart instead.

What about the St. Charles streetcar? It runs right through the Garden District, how about a postcard of that? This awesome product makes me think that someone walked down one street, went inside two houses, took the photographs for this book within a couple of hours, and called it easy money.

I will continue to search for some New Orleans postcards that would encourage people to come visit. They should have images of the best the city has to offer: courtyards, balconies, late night music shows, cemeteries, mardi gras, people being friendly and genuine, and let's not forget: The Great Mississippi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Pictures!, August 23, 2007
This book has a lot of interesting info and the pictures are amazing! The ONLY problem that I have with the book is that some of the numbers for the B&Bs and museums are no longer working. Great job otherwise!
