Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

One of the country's greatest treasures, Scotland's castles are a stirring reminder of her past. They were built from the dawn of time until the 18th century, when the rise of a stronger central government lessened the need for structural defense from enemies. Today, these awesome bastions tell the proud and romantic history of this small nation and the many clans that ensured its survival. Celebrating the heritage, legend and architecture of these landmarks, Castles of Scotland visits many of the country's dramatic fortresses, including Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, Castle Fraser, Fyvie Castle, Castle Levan, Caerlaverock Castle, Glamis Castle, Fort George, Eileen Donan Castle, Culzean Castle and Kinloch Castle.

2.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CINAMATOGRAPHY, HORRIBLE MUSIC!, September 21, 1999
By A Customer
AS I WATCHED THIS VIDEO, ONE THING BECAME APARENT. IT SEEMS THAT THE PRODUCERS COULD ONLY PROCURE THE RIGHTS TO ONLY ONE SONG FOR THIS VIDEO. IF YANNI TURNED ELECTRO-CELTIC, THATS WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE AS THE LONE TITLE DRONED THROUGH THIS PRODUCTION. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT VIDEO IF YOU MUTED THE SOUND AND TURNED ON SOME TRADITIONAL CELTIC MUSIC.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Romantic and Historical look!, January 18, 2002
By Pat Fountain (Broadalbin, NY) - See all my reviews
This is a far cry from the usual dull travelogue. This set of three tapes has good history, beautiful footage of the castles, and a nice selection of some lesser known ones as well.

My personal favorite was Caerlaverock, the castle of the Maxwell family (my own clan). This was featured twice and the history was very interesting.

The narrator's voice and presentation was dramatic and engaging. Go ahead, buy it! You'll be glad you did!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice photography., November 14, 2002
By "dixiemanorfarm" (Eubank, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This video has very nice photography that shows a lot of the places in the castles that you would not normally see.The main problem I had with it was I would have like to have known a little more of the history of the castles as it played.

1.0 out of 5 stars Which castles?
It would be nice to know which castles are featured in each of these videos. I would be more inclined to purchase one with that information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and beautiful, a must for Scotiofiles !
Castle videos can be dull and some dwell on the designer interiors, but these are well made and lively! Very enjoyable.
