Product Description

In epic style, the new historical fiction series Prelude to Glory chronicles the miraculous events that gave birth to a new nation. In Our Sacred Honor, the first volume in the series, master storyteller Ron Carter presents the early events of the Revolutionary War through the eyes of common people. We meet the heroes, but we see them through the eyes and hearts of the soldiers and the sailors, men and women, who came out of the shops, fields, and forests and paid the price. No human mind could ever have created a plot so diverse, so intensely gripping, so inspiring as the story of the American Revolution. Through fictional as well as real-life characters, Prelude to Glory powerfully depicts that dramatic story.

From the Inside Flap

In volume 1, "Our Sacred Honor", author Ron Carter transports readers to the 1770's to witness key episodes of the Revolutionary War, from the opening encounter at Lexington (where "the shot heard round the world" is fired) to the incredible sea battle off the east coast of England (where the American commander John Paul Jones exclaims, "I have not yet begun to fight!"). But this is much more than a story of kings and generals. Though we certainly get to meet the likes of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Benedict Arnold, the author focuses on the perspective of the common people. Thus, through the eyes of the fictional Dunson family of Boston we see what it was like to live in everyday colonial America, to fight among the minute men, to sail the seas at wartime, and to experience love and heartache as America's destiny unfolds. The underlying spiritual nature of that destiny is powerfully woven into the fabric of the story. And this spiritual perspective will give readers a better understanding of why the Founding Fathers were moved upon to champion a cause to which they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great history, March 15, 2000
Not only does this series give an idea of what went on in the Revolutionary war, but also in the lifestyles, how they cooked, cleaned, what the homes and occupations were like. I am throughly enjoying a history of the Revolutionary period for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prelude to Glory (All 3 volumes), April 14, 2001
By Daniel Walton (Brooklyn, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This is by far the most excellent series of historically based fiction that I have ever read. I was there with the soldiers as they were fighting for the freedom and liberty that we hold so dear today. I had to put an extra blanket on my bed while I was reading about the conditions that were suffered through during the winter. I was ducking for cover as the cannons thundered and the musket balls whistled past. The interlacing of histroical fact with a very few fictional characters is masterful. Mr. Carter should be congratulated on bringing the struggle of the American Revolution to life in an entirely readable manner. I wish I could have studied American history in high school using Mr. Carter's works, I certainly would have done better and enjoyed the class much more. Even if you do not read them for the historical significance, you should read them for the enjoyment of reading a very good series of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you didn't like History in School, READ THIS BOOK!, October 13, 1999
By A Customer
Public Schools seriously fail the students in the area of American History. Nothing but meaningless dates and names. Reading this book has stirred a new interest in American History for me. It describes the attitudes, lifestyles, and dreams of the Colonial Americans. I could almost picture myself there. The author gives you a taste of the struggles, the pain, and also the reasons that things happened. If you were bored with History in school, but wish you had a good teacher that would have made American History come alive, read Prelude to Glory. This book fills in the gaps.
