Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Part comic book, part art-quilt showcase, this irreverent little book is a collection of outspoken insights from the witty pen and adept needle of quilter Ruth Reynolds. Her quirky observations--on paper and in fabric--are a refreshing portrait of life after suburbia, when marriage, kids, housekeeping, and the rest are still everything and yet not always enough. Reynolds is adamant that Riva is not her alter ego but rather her best girlfriend, one who expresses herself frankly and colorfully. --Amy Handy

Product Description

This is a humorous look into the world of quilt artist Ruth Reynolds through her cartoon friend RIVA's personal diary. It contains a mixture of practical tips and views on the values of women in today's society. Reynolds describes techniques for creating elaborate embellished art quilts incorporating handpainted and alternative fabrics, sequins and beads. RIVA has an opinion on working women, diets, pantyhose, mother/daughter relationships, men, sex, UFOs and the cost of looking good after reaching 40.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings new meaning to Baltimore Albums!, November 3, 1998

Fun, fun, fun! Is the quilt world's losing its girdle the 90's equivalent of burning its bra? That would add an interesting twist to the Woodstock quilt. Ruth's talent in cartooning and humor add so much to the world of quilting. Riva takes leaps beyond a book on piecing or applique- she provides us with content and inspiration- the essence of self expression. Many of us who know Ruth through Quiltart will agree- this one's a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Riva is not just for quilters anymore!, October 12, 1998
By A Customer
There is nothing ordinary about Riva, alter ego of art quilter Ruth Reynolds! You'll have a constant grin on your face as you follow the flamboyant Riva and her girlfriends, portrayed in Reynolds' fabulous art quilts, cartoons and commentary, through the trials and tribulations of every-woman's daily life... Riva tells it like it is, honey... but like no other quilter ever has! You don't have to be a quilter to love Riva ...everyone will be amazed at Reynolds' creativity and sense of humor! I've been a Riva fan for several years and highly recommend her to everyone!
