5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and little-known facts about weather in general, January 4, 2003
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Uncle John's Presents Blame It On The Weather: Amazing Weather Facts is an amazing and collaborative compilation by weather experts and science writers David Phillips, Michael Parfit, and Suzanne Chisholm of exciting and little-known facts about weather in general, and North American weather patterns in particular, ranging from a bizarre thirty hours when Niagra Falls ran dry, to the worst ice storm in recorded history in the year 1998. Trivia, charts, quotes, and an inset section of full-color plates embellish this informed and informative, "reader friendly", and highly recommended survey guide to the weird and wonderful weather workings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who said,The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you've gotta put up with the rain"?, February 1, 2007
By J. Guild (Toronto,Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This is an excellent book covering all aspects of the weather, and would interest any reader who picks it up.It isn't,nor does it pretend to be an in depth book on Meterology or detailed forecasting techniques. It does cover enough theory to give the reader a better insight into the weather and better equip one to understand weather forecasts.
However;it is much more than that.It is filled with information about all types of weather good and bad, information on the extreme storms, where the wettest, driest, hottest, coldest, most tornados, greatest snowstorms, most rainbows, and all those other things we associate with weather. It also gives a lot of information ,including, lives lost, damage done and costs as a result of some of the worst weather in recent history. It also deals with the myriad of folk and otherwise sayings and indicators of upcoming weather. There is also a lot of good information for people to follow when severe weather conditions are approaching. There is a lot of information here that could lessen your problems in bad weather, and even save your life. There is a good Glossary of weather terms that explain what those weather people are talking about.
The book covers all sorts of weather trivia such as; El Nino, chinooks, why Nigara Falls ran dry and for how long, the largest snowflake, the worst ice storm in recorded history, names for hurricanes, wind chill factor, fronts,at what temperature does alcohol freeze, and on and on.
As you come to the end of the book;you will find a Quiz to let you know;:How Weatherwise Are You?"It consists of 100 multiple choice questions.Depending on your answers, you can rate yourself as a Weather Wimp,Weather Wit,Weather Weenie or in a very extreme case a Weather Wizard.
A great little book to go through;but a really handy reference to consult when following the weather or severe storms or even unusual weather conditions or phenomenom such as sun dogs, thunder in the winter, odd cloud formations, etc.
Yes,you'll even find the answer to the question in my title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overview of Weather Phenomena, January 15, 2007
By G. Poirier (Orleans, ON, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This book is essentially a cross-section of various weather issues of interest to everyone. Topics include the following: factors influencing the weather, weather extremes mainly in the past 100 years or so, weather-related damage, weather forecasting, weather folklore, weather terminology, etc. Although revised in 2002, the book contains very little historical information later than 1998. Geographically, the main focus is the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii, although weather phenomena in Canada and on other continents are also occasionally mentioned. The writing style is clear and friendly. This book should be of special interest to those interested in weather trivia.

It is little wonder we are all effected (or is it affected) by the weather (people, animals, fish, whales, subs). The book points out that weather has a mind of its own. Read more
