Editorial Reviews
Review
"...this book is more than a memoir of the 1930's. It's a celebration of rural life that prompts readers to reflect on the way families once lived and worked together. Bill Nelson's photos of practical farmhouse objects remind me of Neruda's lines in Odes to Common Things: "Beautry is beauty twice over and good things are double good when you're talking about a pair of wool socks in the dead of winter." Reese Vaughn Books at the Crossroads --VICTORIA ADVOCATE, April 16, 2005

Review
"This often gentle and smoothly written memoir is aimed at youngsters who cnnot imagine a world without electricity, telelvision, computers or indoor plumbing. Yet many grown-ups also will be drawn to its richly detailed descriptions and ancedotes of life on a family farm in Central Texas during the Great Depression and World War II..." Si Dunn, magazine writer and screenwriter --The Dallas Morning News

5.0 out of 5 stars Children's Book Celebrates Rural Life, April 22, 2004
By A Customer
See the Victoria Advocate for this entire review. It is wonderful and goes to the very heart of this book. The review was written by Reese Vaughn and says this: "...I JUST CALLED HER MOMMA, by a former elemenatry school librarian, is more than a children's book...it's a celebration of rural life that prompts readers to reflect on the way families once lived and worked together. Bill Nelson's photos of practical farmhouse objects remind me of Neruda'a lines in Odes to Common Things: "beauty is beauty twice over and good things are doubly good when you're talking about a pair of wool socks in the dead of winter..."
