Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Lee, a teacher of learning seminars in personal growth, provides an intimate look at her own spiritual journey as she addresses issues of women's empowerment. Her unique philosophical perspective encompasses a blend of Native American, Christian, Australian Aboriginal, and New Age concepts. Lee emphasizes the importance of tapping into the feminine aspect of divinity in order to achieve balance and wholeness. She explores methods of contacting the divine feminine through prayer, ritual, music, and dance. The chapters on ritual and ceremony provide an especially fascinating and detailed look at the way in which Lee and other members of her spiritual circle weave their spirituality into their daily lives. Although parts of the book are somewhat repetitive, as a whole it provides an interesting example of one woman's expression of spirituality. While not an essential library purchase, it would be a useful addition for libraries with large collections on women's studies and women's spirituality.

Product Description

In "The Circle Is Sacred", Scout teaches how to "track" and embrace the power inherent in everything around you. She details techniques rooted in ancient traditions for identifying and developing innate powers through adventures and power games--techniques she pioneered and developed with co-author Annie Washburn Lee. Beginning with the aboriginal knowledge that "each thing has a medicine, skan, power," Scout shows you how to embrace the gifts of all life--join the Sacred Circle--and enhance your potential for meaningful achievement.

Through stories, ceremonies, adventures, high games and meditations, Scout will show you how to--
Stalk a dream
Play Indian Coup and other power games
Create sacred space
Conduct a vision quest
Become a Peace Warrior...
...and more

Ten years before Scout’s appearance on "Survivor", the first edition of The Circle Is Sacred was published--complete with the adventures "Survivor" fans adore, but also including insights and exercises Scout designed to challenge the greatness within you. This book offers an inspiring wealth of resources to connect you to the Power of the Circle of All-That-Is.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to achieve peace and balance through ritual, March 19, 2000
By Dr. Jan Summers (Oklahoma, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Circle Is Sacred (Paperback)
Drawing on ancient wisdom and contemporary spirituality, this illustrated book provides a host of resources to link the reader with his or her own power and that of an ever-widening circle of women and peace makers. Included are chapters on honoring the Circle, making drums and rattles, making prayer bundles, ritual cleansing, music, dance, sacred acts, games, creating altars and other sacred spaces to include healing, visioning, manifesting dreams, storytelling, entertainment as high medicine, giving, and earth etiquette. This guide to ceremony is the outgrowth of medicine women gathering from around the world. Its text is augmented with words of wisdom from Alinta, Australian aboriginal medicine woman, the late Princess Moon Feathers, Cherokee centurian, Mahisha, Hawaiian elder, Grandmother Kitty, Seneca elder, the late Colonel Lyn Gunter of the U.S. Air Force, and many others. Dr. Scout Cloud Lee has captured her magical ability to lead people to their highest potential through ritual.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an AMAZING INSIGHT!, May 12, 2007
The Circle is Sacred was amazing to say the least. My daughter and myself spent about a week reading and learning from this book for a school project. Scout is truly one of the most loving, honest and free spirited people I have ever gotten to know. You will be so captivated by each chapter and the special sayings included from many different people will truly bless and speak to your soul. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? BUY THIS BOOK!
