The treatments described here, based on evidence from outcome research with children and families, address such common problem areas as social skills, academic performance, self-esteem, and rule-following. Dr. Bloomquist uses his skills as clinician and writer to good effect, creating clear, highly readable descriptions of tested methods; he also documents the research support for these methods and explains their theoretical basis. A particular strength of this work is its extensive collection of practical resources for parents and therapists--examples of behavior contracts and daily behavior charts, child self-monitoring systems, helpful self-talk for young people, techniques for managing parental stress, and family problem solving worksheets, including techniques for dealing with anger and conflict.
