Editorial Reviews

Product Description

A fabulously fun collection of spirited stories, scintillating sidebars, and oh-so-quotable quips, It's a Chick Thing pays homage to the special and unique times that strengthen the bonds of female friendships---the antics, escapades, and thrill seeking---as well as the loyalty, sisterly support, and irrepressible humor.

Read about Dolly Parton's "biker chick" escapades with her girlfriend gang, Hell's Belles; Diana and Fergie's hilarious night on the town during Prince Andrew's bachelor party; and the time Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn faced down the Coal Miner's Daughter's detractors. Meet women like Cirque du Chien, a pack of party-loving Francophiles who dress up like French poodles; La Bella Mafia, self-proclaimed divas who right wrongs and overdress for every occasion; and a bevy of sisters and friends who take over the backyard playhouse for parties and girl talk. Full of irreverent fun, candid observations, and shameless merrymaking, It's a Chick Thing is the perfect gift for each and every one of your best gal pals. Chickcentric lists include "Chicks Who Rock," "Chick Reads," "Chick Flicks," and "Chick Cliques." "Wonderful - a must read for all women of substance!" - Jill Conner Browne, author of The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love"Smart. Sassy. Tons of Fun. It's a Chick Thing is my new best friend," says Cameron Tuttle, author of The Bad Girl's Guide to the Open Road.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Fearless Females Unite!, January 2, 2003
By Tiffany DeBrock (Atlanta, Ga United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great lil' read about female bonding. I do agree with another reviewer who stated some of the stories are 'tame' and I have done much wilder things with some of my girlfriends. HOWEVER this book will remind you of your favorite tight-knit group of gals, and perhaps inspire you to take more 'girl-time' with them. It's an enjoyable, quick read.

1.0 out of 5 stars I felt like the designated driver, April 10, 2001
By Danielle Luko (Tempe, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
My book club read this book and we disagreed with the majority of Amazon reviews of this book. Comments from my club ranged from "I felt like the designated driver" because we couldn't see what was so funny about most of these alcohol-driven scenarios - to comments such as "it was depressing" to read story after story of these life-long friendships when you couldn't feel a part of any of these groups.

Some of the things that happened between the friends weren't things that we would want our friends to do to us. In one story, a so-called best friend had sex with the other friend's love interest in the back seat of a car, while the unsuspecting friend waited in a building, wondering what was taking her friend so long. When she snuck up on her friend having sex in the car with her love-interest, she wasn't even upset. She was more concerned about not seeing the two of them naked.

I agree with one other Amazon reviewer in her comment about the stories being mostly geared toward women in their 50s-70s who used to have a good time with the gals. As a 33-year-old, most of the stories were hard for me to relate to.

This book wasn't anything that I expected. I wish I had someone to give the book to who would enjoy it, but I can't think of anyone I can pawn it off on.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Chick Thing: Celebrating the Wild Side of Women's Fri, December 6, 2000
By Kristen C. Bush "kristenbush" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
A refreshing and fun view of women's relationships! I thoroughly enjoyed each story, especially that some were written by famous, some by younger and some by older women! The book made me laugh out loud and it inspired me pick up the phone to call friends that I have not spoken to in a while to rekindle old laughs and set the stage for new adventures. There is nothing like a good group of girlfriends to have fun with! I recommend this book as a gift to all your "Chick Friends"! It will add spark back into your life!
