If you like the energy high, with plenty of visual and auditory stimulation, you'll enjoy Grind: Dance Club Aerobics. The scene is a trendy dance club. Host Eric Neis does the workout alongside able and motivating instructor Akiba Tripp. They are followed by an assortment of hot bods--bare-chested males and bare-midriffed females, all young, buffed, sweaty, and enthusiastically loud, who take turns instructing moves. The hip-hop choreography is intense, but the instructors make it more accessible by showing each move at half-time, then bringing it up to tempo, then joining it onto the other moves until you have a long pattern. Then the pattern is repeated several times, with visual interest added by having the instructors in different formations: just the guys, just the women, one woman and a bunch of guys, and so on. You, of course, get to participate every time. The aerobic workout ends with a "funky freestyle," where the instructors show off their own moves, one by one, while you do whatever you want and watch. Then you cool down and stretch, followed by floor exercises for the lower body. This 50-minute video is a lot of fun, especially if you're young and coordinated, with energy to burn. --Joan Price

2.0 out of 5 stars Better for fun, but not for a serious workout.., July 21, 2000
By A Customer
Yes, this video is great if you like to dance and feel like messing around for a whole hour doing much of nothing but watching people dance.

I agree the moves are original and sparked my interest at first, but there is no real workout involved here, no real sweating and no real cardio workout.

If you're looking for a good workout to do at home, skip this one, it's a waste of time and money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginners!, January 2, 2000
By vbrown (Sacramento) - See all my reviews
I was looking for a workout that incorporated great music and dance movements but this one was way beyond my skills ability. I found the pace was way too fast and that the directions to 'just keep re-winding the tape until you get the steps' really curbed my enthusiasm. Also, this is not a tape to use if you don't have considerable floor space that has a great view of the T.V. (apartment dwellers, etc.). After kicking the couch a few times, I'm afraid I just packed this tape away. On the plus side, the music was good and the performers had a high level of enthusiasm (although I would say that appreciating Eric Nies' personality must be an 'acquired taste')

3.0 out of 5 stars For the simple dancer, July 3, 2002
By A Customer
I was a little reluctant to buy a 1998 tape in 2002 but it was on sale and it ended up being so worth it. Yes, the moves can be a little difficult at first but if you love to dance, the 50 mins FLEW by. Some reviews say it doesnt 'work you out' but you have to intensify it yourself but doing the moves at tempo speed and trust me, if you dont break out into a sweat, something's wrong on your end. I didnt buy this video for Erik Nies, I bought it so I dont have to hear people yelling 1-2-3-4 at music that sometimes sounds like background porn music. I love this video and intend to do it as often as possible. The music is great if you are into dancing club music. Just make the most of it!

1.0 out of 5 stars the worst tape I own
The instructors in the tape spend almost the whole time demonstrating the steps so when you finally put them all together you don't get much of a workout.
