Review

"Law libraries will want to acquire this...recommended for an undergraduate legal studies program or other course grappling with social problems." -- Bimonthly Review of Law Books, Nov/Dec 1999

Product Description

The marketing of sexual products and services in cyberspace has propelled the pornography debate into new and uncharted territory. This revised edition of PORNOGRAPHY explores the battlelines drawn between those who argue in favor of censorship and those who defend free speech. It includes essays on defining pornography; social and psychological effects; the differences between pornography, erotica, and artistic expression; and sexism, violent pornography, and women's rights.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless lopsided pseudo debate, January 9, 1999
By A Customer
The editors of this book must have a background in mainstream mass media. I say this because this book reads much like a "debate" that would appear in said format. It gives the pretense of examining an issue but falls way short. Instead of inviting a whole spectrum of perspectives the debate is framed in the narrow of fashion. What we have here is a debate between ultra conservatives and moderate conservatives. The editors have to be either highly biased or simply dimwitted and unimaginative to have gone to the length of putting together a book examining pornography as a contemporary issue AND NOT HAVE SOMEBODY WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE PORN INDUSTRY!!! Any outsider who should happen across this book would come away with the perception that porn in America is something consumed by only a small group of degenerates as defined by christian nazis and other prudes. Seeing that this is a revised editon there is a possibility that the editors will have an opportunity to show that they can allow a fair and impartial debate of the issue. Perhaps including the voices of some articulate porn insiders such as Nina Hartley or Bill Margold or Susie Bright would freshen up any future volumes.
