Editorial Reviews

Review
This volume takes a look at some of the memorable American dolls of the last 100 years - dolls made of composition, cloth, rubber, hard plastic, porcelain, vinyl, wood, and some other materials, as opposed to dolls of bisque, wax, wood, and china that were made before World War I.

Product Description
This fourth edition contains over 600 beautiful full color photographs and brand new listings and values. A companion to her first three volumes with no repeats, this hardcover book is filled with detailed information about each doll, including complete histories, sizes, dates, facts, and current values. Doll collectors will love this easy to use format with companies and their dolls arranged alphabetically. 2000 values. AUTHORBIO: Patsy Moyer is a leading authority on doll values; she has written articles as the "Doll Detective" for Contemporary Doll Values, queries for an online publication, "I-Dolls", and served on the board of the Modern Doll Collectors, Inc., a non-profit organization that focuses on modern doll collecting, for many years. Her bestselling book series on dolls include: Doll Values, Antique to Modern, Modern Collectible Dolls, and Scouting Dolls Through the Years. REVIEW: Since the publication of the first edition of this book in 1980, interest in Limoges porcelain has increased tremendously. This revised edition is arranged by company and/or mark. The history of the Limoges porcelain industry begins the book, followed by the histories, marks, and examples of the major factories, unidentified Limoges companies, and even miniatures. An index and cross reference to companies, initials, and symbols, are provided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing a doll legacy....., June 14, 2007
By Lin "Lin22" (Puget Sound) - See all my reviews

I own all of the Patsy Moyer Doll Identification & Value books, and I am never disappointed. The photos are always so wonderful, and the information very helpful ...(especially when Patsy identifies the more obscure collectible dolls).

Also, the all the Moyer books are printed on quality paper, etc...

As any Moyer fan will tell you, once you buy one volume of Patsy's books, you will want to go back and buy ALL of her other volumes!

There are so many dolls out there, that truly, an author would need to compile all the information in many (many) volumes,-- which is exactly that Patsy has done, throughout her career.

By the way, Patricia R. Smith was the original author to have started the trend in compiling doll information into many encyclopedic hardback "Volumes" (except that Patricia called her books "SERIES" rather than "VOLUMES"). Infact, I believe that Patricia Smith started her doll encyclopedias way back in the 1970's!

Patricia Smith's very first "Series" are now hard to find , since they've been out-of-print for so long. (I was able to find all of Patricia Smith's early doll Series at a second-hand bookstore, many years ago).

Anyhow, after Patricia Smith retired, that's when Patsy Moyer took over the legacy (ie: to place all the doll information into encyclopedic volumes).

I believe that Patsy Moyer has done an outstanding job, since Patricia Smith has since left us, and I'm sure it was hard to fill Patricia Smith's shoes.
