Editorial Reviews

Review

This book is the second in a five-volume set by noted Indian relics authority Lar Hothem. The hundreds of arrowheads and artifacts featured will be invaluable to collectors, and the book has no repeats from his other volumes. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Lar Hothem's first four books on this subject have been great sellers, and Book V, the first of the series in full color, will sell even better with nearly as many photographs as the first two books combined, and no repeats from any of the other books! There are over 2,150 full-color photographs featuring thousands of specimens from our ancient past. Hothem, widely known for his research and publications in the field of Indian artifacts, gives the collector all the necessary facts about each item featured, such as important details, size, date, location found, and current collector value. Once again this book covers the artifacts found in the heartland of North America, with its primary emphasis on the more common, readily available types, not the museum pieces virtually never seen or found. A new feature of this volume is a section on artifact record keeping. A present-day treasury documenting America's past! AUTHORBIO: Lar Hothem is a well-known expert in the field of Indian arrowheads and artifacts. His popular series, Indian Artifacts of the Midwest series has now added its fifth volume. His other titles include Indian Axes & Related Stone Artifacts, Indian Pipes, Arrowheads & Projectile Points, and Indian Trade Relics. REVIEW: This is the fifth book in Hothem's popular series, and it's loaded with hundreds of types of artifacts. The Paleo, Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian Periods are covered. Collecting tips are also provided. This is the first in the series to be featured in full-color, and the photo details are sharp! -Edward Teagues

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice descriptions but no color photos., September 1, 1999
By A Customer
The descriptions and price estimates were helpful. The complete lack of color photos, except for the cover, was an extreme disapointment. The photos ranged from average to poor quality and were of limited value in indentifying artifacts. I feel the book description should have clearly noted the lack of color photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Identification of a Recently Aquired Treasure, November 1, 1997
By A Customer
One week ago I went to do some house hunting and found something I wasn't looking for. While going through the house I came upon a large collection of Indian Artifacts. I knew almost nothing about them but susspected they were highly valuable. The next day an estate auction was held and I purchased the collection. Upon searching the internet for some information it became obvious what the best source was for identification of my midwest collection, Lar Hothem's book "Indian Artifacts of the Midwest." I purchased the book and was able to quickly identify many of the pieces that I knew nothing about. The book was written so a "layman" like myself could easily understand and identify many of the the basic artifacts. The quality photographs added to the pleasure of my learning. I was very pleased to realize the age, almost 10,000 years, and value of my collection. Thanks to such a thorough and readable source I now find myself hooked on the collecting and identifying of very interesting artfacts left in my area so long ago.
