Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Another entry in the fantastic Laura Lemay's Web Workshop series, this book is required reading for anyone who wants to build an effective business web site. Subjects covered include creating catalogs and shopping carts, secure electronic payments, using web pages to track orders and fulfillment and advertising-supported sites. Lemay is brilliant at balancing design and technical matters. A CD-ROM provides related software, utilities and demos. For very experienced and advanced users.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, October 8, 1999
By A Customer
This book contains information that was probably more relevant when it was first written. Most is passe by today's standards. The links referenced in the book for the support site, and that for a shopping cart are both dead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disorganized, but never the less useful tips in the Book, September 16, 1997
By A Customer
The disorganization of this book is amazing considering that this is a Laura Lemay book. Do not buy this book if you wish to create enterprise solutions. The content of the book is more relevant for the mom-and-pop web site designer. However, what makes this book useful is that it contains a number of useful tips on the design issues and tools for a web page. Many better tools are now available than those mentioned in the book, but that is not Lemay et. al's fault. The design factor becomes important since now we are no longer concerned with learning HTML (the generators take care of that). If you are a mom-and-pop web site creator then you might find this book useful for the many useful tips. Sanjay Bapna http://jewel.morgan.edu/~sbapna/

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Tips, February 11, 1999
Gosh! I found this book useful and am amazed at the flames of other readers. I found information here that none of the other (Que, Sams, Wrox, etc.) books had. For example: Mailto, Submit-it. In this it solved some problems for commercial pages I had developed that I could not (repeate could not) find in any other book (or even the news groups). The only reason I graded it down was due to the organization. There I do agree with the other readers. It would seem that this book was rushed out the door to print.
