1.0 out of 5 stars STOP!, July 31, 1998

This is a really really bad book. I know Cold Fusion, so I was able to get started rather quickly, but this book-- ooh, let me tell you. One page on microsoft's site helped me considerably more. I'm gonna go and buy something else now. What a waste.

2.0 out of 5 stars I would probably NOT recommend this book to any programmer., November 18, 1997
By A Customer
I must agree with the other comments made about this book. I do not feel that this book was worth my money at all. I wish I would have read this before I bought and saved myself the $30 some dollars it cost. I is not until like the forth or fifth week before you really start getting into the meat of the program! And the most important reason I purchased the book was to get experience with dynamically driven (database) websites. This book is extremely lacking in the true power of ASP.

1.0 out of 5 stars At the end of 14 days you just feel dirty., October 10, 1997
By A Customer
As fate would have it, I needed to learn and implement Active Server Pages in
considerably less than 14 days. Of course, Teach Yourself Ative Server Pages in 14 Days seemed like the most logical choice for research on the topic. What I found, however, was a text significantly lacking in all the condensed usefulness I've grown to expect from the "Teach Yourself... In X Days" line of books. One entire day is spent installing the server software! The next few days largely cover the same material, passing cookies and illustrating the addition of relatively simple logical loops and branches to your code. When the text reaches the topic of database connectivity - perhaps the greatest strength of ASP code - it provides a cursory summation of the technology and then introduces Microsoft's Visual Interdev! To me, this was no different than reading a text about HTML, only to be directed to FrontPage or PageMill when I reached the topic of tables or frames.

In conclusion, it would take a great text to communicate an understanding of ASP to the reader. This is not a great text.
