Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Weber gets down and dirty with a couple of bed-hopping African-American couples in his latest, a raunchy, over-the-top romantic romp that reads like a cross between a soap opera and a Jerry Springer episode. The protagonists are a pair of sisters, Jasmine and Stephanie, who have enough man trouble between them to last most families several generations. Jasmine's gig as a postal supervisor in Richmond, Va., gives her the edge in stability over her younger sister, Stephanie, but she happens to be dating Derrick, a drug dealer who is serving out a jail term as the book opens. Stephanie, meanwhile, lands a better boyfriend when she hooks up with Travis, a stable, staid army sergeant who is willing to marry her and adopt her young daughter, Maleka. But Stephanie screws up the relationship when she slips into the sack with her ex, a seedy hustler and absentee father. Jasmine has similar problems when Derrick gets out of prison early, just after she meets Dylan, a potentially stellar new beau. The novel's first half is reasonably solid, but drugs, sexual escapades, venereal disease and loud, melodramatic confrontations dominate the proceedings once the basic plot is outlined. The four primary characters are well drawn-though cartoonishly addicted to sex-but virtually every secondary character in the book is introduced for the purpose of bedding one of the major playas. Weber starts off with an entertaining setup, but the frenzied booty calls and out-of-control plotting spoil a potentially good read.

From Booklist
This compelling novel is the hardcover debut of the author of the best-selling Married Men. In Richmond, Virginia, Stephanie and Jasmine compete for affection from their grandmother, Big Mama. The oldest sister, Jasmine, is waiting on her boyfriend, Derrick, to get out of jail. After three years of loyalty and celibacy, on one of her visits she finds Derrick in a compromising position with his baby's mama, Wendy. The hurt of that encounter causes her to seek out her friend, Dylan. Their relationship starts off shaky when his ex-girlfriend claims that she is pregnant. Little sister, Stephanie, has a daughter by her high-school sweetheart, Malek, who left her to pursue a music career in Washington, D.C. Throughout all of the "baby's mama drama," Jasmine and Stephanie learn that they actually have more in common and that no matter what they will always be sisters. Lillian Lewis

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Plain Drama!, January 5, 2003
By A Customer
This was an excellent fast pace read and I recommend it to other bookclubs.

Baby Momma Drama consists of several Main Characters. Jasmine who is dealing with her Drug Dealer Boyfriend Derrick and his Baby Momma Wendy. Jasmine finds herself falling in love with Dylan while Derrick is in jail but Dylan has drama of his own by dealing with trying to get over his ex-girlfriend Monica. Then there is Travis who is dating Jasmine's sister Stephanie who can't seem to stay away from her baby's daddy Malek. Stephanie risks her securee future with Travis by constantly getting tangled up in lies concerning her relationship with Malek.

Will anyone be happy in the end? Hmmm .... You'll just have to read this hard to put down book. There are so many twists and turns it will have you glued to each page.

Carl Weber has definitely done it again . I am looking forward to the sequel to Married Men in 2004 called Player Haters.

Baby Momma Drama by Carl Weber

Carl Weber is dubbed by many as the King of Drama, and after reading his third book Baby Momma Drama, I am inclined to agree. Have you ever given any thought to what "Baby Momma Drama" entails? If not, you need to read Carl Webers latest. Each character offers us a different insight into "Baby Momma Drama."

Baby Momma Drama # 1- Jasmine is currently dating Derrick the drug dealing roughneck who fathered a baby with his ex, Wendy. Jasmine finds herself making decisions that are morally incorrect for her out of fear of losing her man to his Baby Momma. In the end, she is pushed over the edge.

Baby Daddy Drama # 2- Stephanie has a good man willing to be
the "Baby Daddy" but she cannot stay out of her daughters Baby Daddys boxers. She certainly finds it easy to put her man's needs on the back burner, though.

Momma Drama # 3-Big Momma, grandmother to Jasmine and Stephanie can jump-start more drama than a little bit. She is meddling and always trying to bully her way into her grand daughters lives.

Mixed with all this drama is a whole lot of sex and spontaneous
decisions that have lasting repercussions. A baby is born into
horrible circumstances, and Jasmine unwillingly finds herself back in "Baby Momma Drama" but in a different light. Wendy and Derrick wind up in the big house doing big time.

Carl Weber did an excellent job of delivering a story filled with drama that was not only believable but also entertaining. I enjoyed hearing the male perspective on drama. If you like reading the drama of characters whose actions are consistent and not so far out there, then this is the next book you should be reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, June 20, 2003
By Love me some books "Jounay" (New Orleans, LA United States) - See all my reviews
Carl Weber has done it again.

In this book you are introduced to two sisters. There lives are different but yet so similiar.

Jasmine has her act together but continues to wait on her boyfriend that is in jail.

Stephanie has the man any woman would die for yet she continues to deal with her baby's daddy.

This was a delightful read and I would recommend it to anyone.
