Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Middle-class Christians who wonder how to appropriately respond to poverty may enjoy the practical, specific suggestions in 101 Ways to Help People in Need, a guide by Steve and Janie Sjogren. For an evangelical book, it has a refreshing emphasis on social justice and is chock-full of concrete ideas. The Sjogrens begin with tips for immediate relief, such as providing backpacks to the homeless and used computers to low-income families. The next steps are a bit more demanding: helping needy persons to reconcile with God and each other, creating economic opportunities for them and, finally, "relocating" to serve them better (e.g., by using vacation time to assist with house-building). Down-to-earth and compassionate, this is a valuable guide to getting started.

Product Description

You don’t have to be the apostle Paul in order to share your faith.

Relatively few of us are gifted in the area of evangelism. In fact, many of us have a rather dismal track record when it comes to sharing our faith. And yet, in spite of our evangelistic shortcomings, we want to share Jesus with others. Is there a way we can be involved in sharing the gospel without preaching like the apostle Paul?

You may not be a gifted evangelist, but you do have the gift of servanthood. You can use that gift to reach out to your community with the love of God. For years Steve Sjogren has successfully used a simple approach called "servant evangelism" that allows any believer—regardless of gifting—to be involved in sharing God’s love with others. One of the great things about this approach is that you don’t have to do it alone. Sjogren offers 101 simple and effective ways your church or small group can demonstrate the love of God to those in your community. And when people see the love of God in action, they want to know more about Him. You can share your faith successfully -- here are 101 ways to get started!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas transformed our church, July 7, 2007
No single book, philosophy of ministry or methodology will work in every situation, but this author has inspired our church and transformed the way we do ministry. I recommend it if you are tired of sitting in the pews with the lights on and doors open just waiting for your community to walk in.

Ideas were innovative, fun and easy to do. All are practical and some require very little money to implement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book of ideas based on meeting needs, not fixing the system

Not very creative...and frankly, disappointing. Nearly every idea stated involves churches pouring out their coffers to market Jesus and his love. Read more
