4.0 out of 5 stars Good for NYC Teachers but not anyone else, November 15, 2003
By A Customer
I read about half of this book. While it does have some interesting facts, this book is not interesting enough for the general public.

The book is written for NYC teachers teaching about their local history. Anyone else needs a detailed map of Staten Island to refer to if they want to follow the book.

The book is dry reading, but gives a great deal of information on each landmark building in Staten Island. You can find out about the dates of churches, factories, but not much about the people who lived on Staten Island. This did not even cover the politics of Staten Island very well. Yet, I am still trying to read it. (Some of my ancesters came from Staten Island.)

This book has good and bad points. I did not find it useful as a history to give me a sense of what Staten Island was like in the past. Yet, for the purpose of helping teachers learn about Staten Island, it does the job.

My suggestion if you have any doubts about this book, read it and then decide for yourself whether or not the book is good.

Someone from Westchester County, New York, USA.
