Review

Ragonnet . . . allows golf and life to illuminate each other with humor and zest. Highly recommended. -- From Library Journal

Product Description

The Buddha’s seven years of wandering in search of enlightenment ended in frustration. So did the author’s thirty years of traversing golf courses. Neither found what they were looking for until they stopped searching outside and started looking within. The result for James Ragonnet was the kind of “second birthday” Eastern thinkers describe when “you wake up to everything happening around you.” Through delightful anecdotes and practical lessons, Ragonnet reveals the power of awareness, balance, and unity to banish the dissatisfaction and stagnation so many golfers experience. He shows how “all golf Buddhas — Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Annika Sorenstam, Tiger Woods — play with their outer and inner eyes wide open,” describes his twelfth-green OOGE (“out-of-golf-experience”), and offers readers simple truths that prompt flashes of understanding. These insights invite birdies, drop handicaps, and transform experience both on and off the course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awake, June 14, 2007
I have been playing golf on and off for more than 35 years and during that time, I have played lots of golf courses including the one I own, Blue Ridge Shadows, had lots of golf lessons and read lots of golf books. However, I have never been exposed to the enlightened perspective contained in James Ragonnet's book, Golf's Three Noble Truths. The book has increased my "awareness" and general appreciation for the golf experience more than any single thing in all my history with the game. I was very much like the golfers that James refers to in his book, not "dead" but certainly "asleep" during most of my rounds. Having read his book, I am now much more aware of the total experience. My game has improved a little but my enjoyment of the golfing experience has increased tremendously. Thanks James

5.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU FEEL THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO BETTER YOUR LIFE AND THAT IT WOULD BE WORTH DOING , READ GOLF'S THREE NOBLE TRUTHS, May 6, 2007
..Completely, admiringly, and a bit enviously, have I relished each page of Golf's Three Noble Truths: The Fine Art of Playing Awake. A superb piece of writing - solid (in the word's best sense) true, and unfailingly relevant.

I have greatly enjoyed and profited by the reading of Ragonnet's book - only regretting that it was not longer. How profoundly I agree with the author's idea of simplicity - his [Golf] spirituality is immeasurably a read on humanity - as they say in Maine: "The Way Life Should Be.."

5.0 out of 5 stars Treat Yourself!, May 5, 2007
I don't know much about golf...I know even less about the teachings of the Buddha...but I DO know that I thoroughly enjoyed the wisdom and humor Ragonnet offers in Golf's Three Noble Truths! Treat yourself to a well crafted, concise set of stories.
