From School Library Journal
Grade 2-4-These books are identical in format, table of contents, and pagination, and similar in wording. They discuss early history, explorers, first settlements, government, life in general, statehood, etc. Half- and full-page color illustrations on the right face each page of text. The pictures appear to be reproductions from historical documents and possibly period artwork but are not identified. A map shows the colony and where it is in relation to the other original 12. The writing is choppy and rather condescending. Certain words, not always significant ones, are highlighted and appear in the glossary, but are not defined in context. Although the small format and clear layouts are appealing, children may find it a chore to read these dull texts.
