Product Description

An authoritative guide to treating thyroid issues—using both traditional and alternative methods More than 14 million Americans suffer from thyroid disorders. Now, for the first time, comes a comprehensive guide from an M.D. and a noted medical writer that explains all of the traditional and alternative methods available for treating hyper- and hypothyroidism.

Thyroid Balance answers every question the thyroid patient might have, including how to:

·Recognize a thyroid condition

·Find a good doctor

·Know what tests help identify thyroid conditions and what the results mean

·Determine if the adrenal gland is the real culprit

·Distinguish between hypo, hyper, autoimmune, and subclinical conditions

·Integrate conventional and alternative treatments

·Determine what to do when treatment fails

·Alleviate nutritional concerns

·Control weight gain and loss

·Manage a thyroid condition’s interaction with other problems

·Understand and manage the thyroid’s impact on a woman’s cycle and fertility

After twenty-five years at the forefront of the complementary medicine movement, Dr. Glenn S. Rothfeld provides the tools patients need to take charge of their own treatments, including a reader quiz and a worksheet for creating a personal plan. Thyroid patients can choose and adapt the traditional and alternative methods that best suit their needs and finally find balance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on thyroid disorders., April 2, 2006
This is easily the best book I've read on thyroid disorders and I've read many. Because of this book I still have my throid and my Graves disease is in remission! Several doctors recommend I have it removed and be forever in need of synthetic hormone treatments. But this book taught me about the condition and I learned how to correct the imbalance in my life and remedy my situation. The book is easy to read and informative. The goal of the author is to help the reader comprehend the endocrine system and it's relation to the body and mind as a whole. It blends western and eastern philosophies and knowledge to help readers make informed decisions on how to live with a thyroid disorder. Exceptional, exceptional, exceptional. I am forever grateful to the author.

By Kris B. (Iowa USA) - See all my reviews
This is a must have for anyone who thinks they might have thyroid problems and a must for those of you who have already been diagnosed and are still suffering, or not feeling good, like me. I recently found out I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, Adrenal gland failure, and an enzyme deficeincy, all covered in this book... This is a must have before you see a doc.... -Kris Brunkhorst, Waverly, Iowa

5.0 out of 5 stars Searching for Answers, June 6, 2003
By "rumcake1" (Wilmington, Delaware) - See all my reviews
At the end of a long search for an answer to extreme fatigue, I found Thyroid Balance by Dr. Rothfeld. The language is clear and understandable, yet indepth and a little technical. This book spoke to me about my symptoms - there they were in print! And it gave enough detailed information to help me and my doctor determine the answer I'd been searching for. Very informative, analytical, easy to understand and follow, and a great resource for me.
