Contents include the game's beginnings in 15th-century Scotland, the development of the golf ball and clubs, the notable golf courses, and the great players. Beginning with the Saint Andrews golf course in Scotland and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, the author also provides a brief commentary to go along with the pictures. Among the golfers portrayed are Old Tom Morris, one of the pioneers of professional golf and a four-time winner of the British Open; Willie Park Jr., the first professional golfer to author a book (The Game of Golf, 1896); John Shippen, the first nonwhite entrant in a major U.S. golf tournament; Joyce Wethred, whom Bobby Jones claimed was the best golfer he had ever seen, man or woman; and the legends of the game (Jones, Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus).
