Product Description

When Lauck wrote *The Tactical Marksman* in 1996, it quickly became a sought-after training manual for police, military and civilian marksmen alike. Now one of the most respected names in high-performance shooting and gunsmithing refines and updates that information. Dispensing with overcomplicated mil-dot formulas and minute-of-angle calculations, Lauck shows you how to achieve superior accuracy and figure out angle shots, streamline the zero process, hit targets at 2,000 yards, deal with dawn and dusk shoots, train for real-world scenarios, choose optics and accessories, create a mobile shooting platform and much more.

what a waste of money. you don't even come close to learning anything new. you would think that the book would deliver on its premise of more info on " High-Performance Techniques for Police, Military, and Practical Shooters." not true

you would think after reading a couple of chapters the info would start flowing. sorry to inform you you will be disappointed. It be it goes on and on and on with self promotion until you give up on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Professionals & Academics Only, May 9, 2004

This review is from: Advanced Tactical Marksman: More High-Performance Techniques for Police, Military, and Practical Shooters (Paperback)
I am an AGR/SSG, Organizer of our HQ Special Reaction Team, and RVN Vet CoB 1/502 w/101st; MOS: 11B/92A/92Y/71L & dyslectic Guitarist Composer :) . In April 04 I purchased this publication. My first impression was that this book is another publication by professional shooters, not writers. However it is rather well written but could still use some edditing. All edditing errors found thus far should be obvious to the educated reader and therefore overlooked. In the books forward, pp: xii the 168g BTHP @ ? fps "...reaches its mark." in .004 sec. An M118 mil spec 172g FMJ travels at about 2450fps. This is most likely slower than the authors bullet, however: 2450fps / 1000 = 2.45 feet, times 4 (for the .004) = 9.80 feet. I don't know of any 20X scope that can focus at 9.80 feet, and at that distance I'm not impressed with hitting the mark, however I would give him high points for stealth. But this is only an edditing error. There were a few comments that I thought were unprofessional in its criticizing "other" publications or authors. That's my job as reviewer. Also, if the book was not published for commercialism/profit/ecconomic gain, why was it introduced on the open marked and not restricted to Police and Military Training programs only. This book seems to promote the authors manufacturing business $$$ also? The content of this book is however honey to my eyes. The chapter on safety is the best I have ever seen written, and provides glimps of the quality of information that abounds. I didn't see any new information beyond that of the author's compeditors, but new perspectives for solving problems were introduced. This is important because different people learn differently. This book, like others, is truely an advanced manual worthy of reading by any professional rifleman, however, if you don't have $$$, or your department, or the military will not provide you with the author's equipment -- don't expect the same results. For military purposes, I am perfetly satisfied with the M24 system or what can be easily purchased or built on the common market. To set straight other reviewers: US Army Standards: Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) consists of: Correct: Sight Allignment/Picture/Target Allignment/Weapon Grip/Breathing & Trigger control for a weapon with iron sights. ANYTHING beyond that: wind, elevation, up/down, humidity, altitude, optics, etc. IS ADVANCED. This and other publications of congruent quality are manuals of explaination -- not demonstration or practical application. I will expect other reviewers to have slight parallaxes in their opinions. Until you have an experienced field teacher --- it is all academic. Accurate information and excelence in presentation, but not as broad as other publications in the field.
