...carries the weight of an entire psychology textbook while demonstrating that less is more. -- Baton Rouge Advocate - June 16, 2002

Product Description

The relationship between father and daughter is one that almost defies description. Begun and nurtured in love, the relationship strengthens daughter and dad and brings out the best in both, softening the edges of fathers and providing strength and security for their daughters. The warmth of quiet—and exhuberant—hugs and laughter, the comfort of familiarity, the creation of a history from which both dad and daughter may draw—all this and much more express the rich relationship that exists between fathers and daughters.

Why a Daughter Needs a Dad is one father’s loving reflection upon what he brings—or hopes to bring—to his daughter’s life. “When I sat down to write,” Gregory E. Lang observes, “I wanted to express the essence of what I think is unique about the relationship my daughter and I share.” He began to think of the things they had done together and how important their moments together have been. He thought of what sort of wisdom he could impart by virtue of a strong relationship, how their years together could provide a bond that would guide her as she grew into womanhood. “The first time I read what I had written,” he writes, “I saw a list of what a daughter might ask her father to do for her. The second time I read it I saw a list of all that I hope to do for my daugher.”

The result is a book that will inspire fathers to embrace the important role they hold in their daughters’ lives, to provide them with the love, nurture, and support they seek, and to enjoy the blessings that are reciprocated in kind. 5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Let This One Slip Through Your Hands!, July 2, 2002
By Bill Reese (Norcross, GA United States) - See all my reviews
A fabulous book for fathers everywhere! This book really gives insight and direction for those that need a little push. The easy to read format allows anyone to pick up the book and get something out of it quickly. The photographs and words cause you to reflect on special moments of the past and shine a light on your future as a father.

On every page the reader is reminded of just what the book is about. "A Daughter Needs A Dad" is the opening statement and is followed by nuggets of golden wisdom for every daddy. The photographs help you to recall when your girl was just a young child. They also show you times when your little girl has grown up and desires those special moments shared with dad.

This book is definitely for fathers everywhere. It is for those that have little girls or for those whose daughters have grown into women. I urge you not to let this one slip out of your hands. The information contained within the pages is so powerful, you will read it time and time again, to see if you missed any of the nuggets of wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee table book, and an important reminder., February 15, 2004
I was given a copy of this book by my sister Amy for Christmas this year. I have two little daughters and she obviously understands the importance of a Dad in her life and wanted me to as well.

This is not a deep read, just photos and short bits of wisdom. However, that's not to say it isn't emotionally resonating. I had tears in my eyes while reading and thinking about the role I have in my two daughter's lives. It is humbling and wonderful at the same time.

If you have daughters, or know someone who does, then this book is a simple reminder of the important role that fathers play in the healthy development of their female children. A great coffee table, or end table, book to serve as a gentle reminder of the responsibility of caring for a daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made a difference!, May 17, 2004
As the single mother of two small daughters, I've struggled through the years to keep their father active in their lives. I wanted my daughers to have a much deeper relationship with their father than simply the receipt of a child support check each month. I knew how much they would be missing if their father continued to be out of their lives for extended periods.

My mother spotted this book while shopping and glanced through it. She thought that it would really be beneficial for me to present it to my daughters' Dad. We gave it it to him as a birthday gift in January. He was visibly touched the first time he read the book and he has since begun to play a much more active role as a parent. Mr. Lang's reasons really resonated with him as he began to see the positive effect he could have in the lives of his daughters.
