Product Description

The primary purpose of Private Pilot and Recreational Pilot FAA Written Exam is to provide you with the easiest, fastest, and least expensive means of passing the FAA Private Pilot - Airplane (PAR) knowledge test, which is the knowledge (written) test required before you can obtain your private pilot certificate.

Additionally, this book can be used in preparation for the following FAA knowledge tests:

Private Pilot- Airplane (PAR) which is required if you are working toward a private pilot (airplane) certificate. Recreational Pilot - Airplane (RPA), which is required if you are working toward a recreational pilot (airplane) certificate. Private Pilot - Airplane Transport (PAT), which is required if you currently hold a recreational pilot certificate and are working to obtain a private pilot (airplane) certificate.

We change the FAA knowledge (written) test process from a memorization marathon to a learning opportunity and experience. You get higher test scores in less study time. Seven of the major differences between our Private Pilot and Recreational Pilot FAA Written Exam book and most other available books are

Only airplane-related questions and study materials are included in our books. Comprehensive explanations of each question are provided, including explanations of why each answer is incorrect. Answer explanations are NEXT to each question, NOT at the back of the book. All FAA test questions are reorganized into logical topics (FARs, weather, navigation, etc.) We provide outlines explaining the concepts tested at the beginning of each chapter so you can study and learn the material before you answer and study the test questions. A detailed index assists you in finding topics and questions you wish to study. We provide practice tests using the FAA's mix of question topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential study material., May 19, 2008
The FAA written test consists of 60 3-choice multiple choice questions that are pulled randomly from a bank of 600 standard questions. This book contains all 600 questions, the answers, and the answer explainations. Both my flying instructor and ground school teacher declared this book essential.

I really can't comment on the other study aids the previous reviewer mentioned, because this book was all I used for my FAA written. It's divided up into 11 chapters, each chapter starting with a brief summary of the important points covered in the test and followed by all the standard test questions on the subject. Systematic study of each chapter starting about a week before the test, coupled with free on-line practice tests [exams4pilots-dot-com] will almost guarantee a passing grade.

However, the purpose of this book is strictly to get you to pass the test. Each chapter begins with a warning stating that much more knowledge and information is necessary to fly safely. Everything that isn't specifically on the test is omitted. I passed on the first try with a 97%.

P.S. - This book is updated every year to reflect changes in the FAA testing material and proceedures. Make sure the one you're buying is at most a year old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great study aid, January 29, 2004

When studying for the FAA Private Pilot written exam, you've got choices. You can grab a CFI and have him teach you the material, attend a weekend cram course, purchase a DVD/VHS study course, or use the Gleim prep book. Depending on your learning style, you should pick the one you think will work best.

This unique book contains the entire FAA written test pool with explanative answers. Each chapter focuses on a FAA requirement, presents the basic information you need to know, then the questions and answers are presented to the reader.

For students who like independent study, I think this is the way to go. Highly recommended.
