Product Description

What do you get when you combine the classic, almost 2,000-year-old Indian treatise on the art of love with the most up-to-date paper-engineering techniques? The Pop-Up Kama Sutra!

This lively distillation of the world's most famous sex guide features choice excerpts from the original text, translated in 1883 by the renowned explorer Sir Richard Burton, and is illustrated with vintage color plates from India. Best of all, six incredible pop-ups present the Kama Sutra's most interesting, instructive, and wildly acrobatic positions in three dimensions. More Bollywood than museum piece, this fun gift book adds a new dimension to the literature of lust and romance.

About the Author

Sir Richard Burton (1821-1890) was an English explorer and author of 43 volumes about his adventures. While working for the East India company, he was stationed in India where he acquired a thorough knowledge of the Persian, Afghan, Hindustani, and Arabic languages. This enabled him to publish the first English translation of the Kama Sutra as well as a complete translation of the Arabian Nights, for which he is best known.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flaccid Pop Flop, December 8, 2003
By A Customer
I was very excited about this book. I'm sad to say it was a great disappointment. The premise had great potential as a unique, entertaining gift book perfect for couples. However, the six pop ups are not very complex and break easily. The text consists of excerpts, and is not as good a read as the complete original. Despite the book description, the pop ups do not represent the most unique and wildly acrobatic (sexual) positions chronicled by Sir Burton. I can only recommend this book for those with lots of spare change to spend on unusual (but rather mundane) books. Buy the original, and skip the pop up version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pop-ups!!! Very Fun Book! For for everyone, July 12, 2004

This book was awesome!!! I dont know why several reviewers complained. Norman is right, they are WAY to critical! If you want a full version go and buy a full version. This is a great compliment to any full version. I would Highly Recommended it as the pop ups are really fun and look awesome. If they overloaded the book with all of the original material it would take away from the Beauty of the pop-ups. The colours and pages are very Beautiful, all of the pages are glossy and its a hardcover (which is about 1 square foot surface area btw. I thought it would be a smaller book b4 i received it). 5 of the 6 pop ups have tabs that you can pull and make the pop-ups move. The suspension pose looks really cool when you move her up and down, up and down hehehehe :) I'm sure that if its a party a couple or just a person reading it, they will find it very enjoyable and get a good laugh here and there. Very Fun book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing, January 22, 2004
By A Customer
This is a very amusing book that would be good for something like a bachlorette party. It's not for those serious about the subject, and is rather short.
