5.0 out of 5 stars Meck Opened His Book of Fly Tying Secrets and Let Us In., November 18, 2002
By Steve K. (Bridgewater, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
After reading "How to Catch More Trout", the practical fly fisher's "bible", I awaited the publication of "101 Innovative Fly Tying Tips" with much anticipation. It was well worth the wait. Meck's latest effort is the practical fly tyer's bible. Meck collected years of tips and innovations and shares them in this book. He takes many of the "top" patterns discussed in "How to Catch More Trout", and tells us the easiest, quickest, and most durable way to tie them. He also adds his tips for fishing many of the patterns. Meck also gives away some of Pennsylvania's local secrets learned from great guides like Kurt Thomas. If you ever wanted to find out how some of the country's best guides and fly fishers tie their patterns, and which ones they consistently use, this book provides answers. If you love fly fishing for trout as much as me, and are at the stage where you want to cut to the chase, you'll love this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great text, mediocre illustrations, January 7, 2003
By Roger M Mills (Cleveland Heights, OHIO United States) - See all my reviews
I have heard Charlie Meck talk, and I know what authority he brings to his subject. I bought this book with the expectation that I could pick up some of his tricks. Unfortunately, the illustrations are small, dark, and very poorly reproduced. The publisher obviously skimped on quality to keep the price down, and it was not a good decision!

Compared to some of the other excellant tying books on the market, this is not a volume that will help the intermediate tyer in search of advanced techniques. I was disappointed.
