Product Description

When founders, boards and executive teams get together to build a billion dollar business, they often fail to realize that what's required in a leader during the early stages of growth is altogether different than what's needed later on. The characteristics of leadership so crucial in a company's infancy - the vision, the drive, the creative genius - are not the same qualities needed in a big company.

This book is about the journey from entrepreneurial start up to a high impact company and the pitfalls you can avoid along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insights for Founders & Boards, April 14, 2005
The Founder Factor is a refreshingly readable book that hones in on the critical, predictive characteristics of Founder CEOs that are strengths and weaknesses for the important growth stages of a young business. She must have considerable experience in working with headstrong Founders because her comments are insightful and candid.

2.0 out of 5 stars When professionals write books to promote their business, September 11, 2009
I found this book to be of limited value. It seems to be written to pat the author's clients and contacts on the back, and to promote her business more than provide deep insight. Reading it felt more like a primer for "want to be" entreprenuers. It certainly didn't deliver on the promise of the subtitle "inside secrets for growing a billion dollar business." Really? This is how you build a billion dollar business? The repetitive references, and lack of depth strucj me as "baby steps" at best. Being an entreprenuer myself, and having chaired two dozen nonporfit organizations in my life, I've experienced or faced the founder syndrome numerous times, and couldn't relate to the broad observations provided here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Founder Realities, June 9, 2006
Pierce illuminates key factors that not only describe but predict Founder led organization behavior, successes and failures. Until now, not enough attention has been paid to the uniqueness of these organizations.
For anyone who has worked in or with such an organization, or for anyone who is thinking about joining a Founder led company....this is a must read. For Founders who welcome unabashed sometimes personal insight, this should be a staple on their bookshelf.
