Product Description

Dreaming of hot pie and coffee at a favorite back road diner?

Know what it's like to fix a bike with bungee cords and electrician's tape?

Been to every smoky roadside bar between here and Sturgis?

A side-cracking companion volume to the best-selling Sit Down, Shut Up & Hang On!: A Biker's Guide to Life, this brand new collection of biker wisdom kicks it up with a hundred miles worth of new quotes and quips, plenty of slick black wisdom, and intoxicating humor that goes down smooth after a long day on the highway:

· There should always be more miles on your bike than your car.

· The five food groups of motorcycling: gas, oil, nicotine, caffeine, and beer.

· Speed costs money. How fast is your wallet?

· In motorcycling, the good guys have names like "Pig," "Grizzly," "Horseface," and "Slammer."

· If you want to be treated like a badass, you have to BE a badass. If you're trying to BE a badass, don't be surprised at how people treat you.

· The bond between bikers has little to do with motorcycles-its beer.

· Never stop a fistfight unless it's getting too close to the bikes.

No self-respecting biker should be without a copy of A Biker's Guide to the Open Road: Ride it Like You Stole It in their saddlebag.

Penny Powers co-wrote Sit Down, Shut Up & Hang On: A Biker's Guide to Life, also published by Gibbs Smith, Publisher, with Chuck Hays. She rides a 1993 Harley FX Low Rider, teaches nursing at South Dakota State University, and likes to raise peafowl. Powers lives in South Dakota.

Chuck Hays has spent the past twenty years as a journalist and writer. He is currently finishing a PhD at the University of Iowa, where he also teaches newspaper and magazine writing. He divides his time between Iowa and South Dakota. His 1989 Harley-Davidson Sportster has been ridden into the ground and rebuilt several times, but he still refuses to buy a larger bike.

From the Back Cover

Do you dream of a pie and coffee breakfast in a back road diner?

Know what it's like to fix a bike with bungee cords and electrician's tape?

Live for the roar of your engine and the wind on your face?

A side-cracking companion volume to Sit Down, Shut Up & Hang On: A Biker's Guide to Life, this collection of biker's wisdom is sure to entertain you with its attitude and insight into life, the road, and life on the road. Whether or not you ride a motorcycle, you'll recognize the black leather and heart of gold beneath it in these pages.

A few bikerisms:

Sometimes the journey ain't about how fast you get there. Sometimes it is.

Never sneeze inside a full-face helmet.

Never let workin' get in the way of ridin'

Whatever it is, go around it. You can't tell a rock from cotton candy at sixty miles per hour.

2.0 out of 5 stars cute cartoon book, June 30, 2008
This is a cute little book that's good for a chuckle or two. Not what I expected since it was a cartoon book with one sentence per page. Not something I would have bought in a bookstore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biker "True-isms", February 27, 2007
A short, but informative "must read" for all bikers! Perfect after a long day ride when you are sitting on the back patio having a cold one and reminiscing about your good times on your ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY!, January 13, 2007
By Christopher Deluca (El Paso, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found this a short but great read. I think it takes a true biker to understand most of the mantra. Some of the things in here I laughed so hard at people thought I had lost my mind. (Don't read at work). I am more than happy with the book and I have read it a few times now. I hope you enjoy it too. I am searching for more books from the authors.
