He served as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court before going to the Senate, where he remained for 18 years. About the Author

The late John Hayman of Birmingham was a professor and the author of a half-dozen books. He had finished the research and the first draft of this book when he died unexpectedly. His widow, Clara Ruth Hayman, completed the book and will promote it. Senator Heflin is retired and lives in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He will also promote the book.
