Product Description

Easy Quilts from Your Closet is a guide to making the most of the fabrics you love. Quilting is a great way to recycle T-shirts, blue jeans, neckties, pj’s , and even prom dresses—to give old favorites a quick and cozy makeover.

These fifteen projects teach three of the most basic quilting techniques: patchwork piecing, foundation piecing, and applique. Readers learn how to “deconstruct” their favorite garments and then reconstruct the pieces to form the small individual blocks that are stitched together to form a quilt.

Block by block, they’ll learn how to make quilt tops and “sandwiches” and then decoratively stitch their surfaces by machine—with straight lines or freeform shapes. They’ll also learn how to assemble blocks to make three full sampler quilts, adding sashing, binding, and designer labels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I can't believe what I created, April 14, 2009
By Mama K (New York) - See all my reviews
I started with 15 of my daughter's favorite tee shirts and finished with an oversized quilt that is making its way to the University of Michigan to decorate her room. This book was invaluable and got me through the process from start to finish. I learned some cool blocks and new techniques. The instructions are clear and easy to follow with detailed pictures. Great tips, great new ideas! My family is amazed and all of my kid's friends are putting their orders in! I am ready to start on my next project.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a way to get rid of those favorite old clothes!, January 29, 2009
This book has creative and interesting ideas for making quilts from some of my favorite things. I no longer have a box filled with my dad's old ties. My mom and I made pillows out of my dad's ties and tuxedo shirts. What a wonderful way to have a memory of my dad with me all the time.

My next project...doing something with all those t-shirts my daughter just can't part with. They will look much nicer as a quilt than as a pile of laundry on the floor. If my kids aren't careful, I will be sewing all their clothes into quilts.
